PROGRAM OF THE MONTH:
Center for Trauma Response/Recovery, and Preparedness

On September 16th, the Center for Trauma Response/Recovery, and
Preparedness will make a special presentation reflecting on a year of
progress following September 11th in the area of mental and behavioral
health.
Established in late 2001, through funding from the federal Substance
Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the Center has
focused attention on developing an organized response network to address
behavioral health needs in the aftermath of traumatic events. The
network coordinates disaster-trained behavioral health providers to
support the critical units of the state of Connecticut. The Center also
has been active in providing intensive professional training and ongoing
public education in stress and other mental health topics.
Registration is encouraged but not required. The seminar will be held
from 12-1 p.m. in the Link Room with overflow in Keller Auditorium. The
Center for Trauma Response/ Recovery and Preparedness is a collaborative
Center of Excellence established by the Department of Mental Health and
Addictions Services, the Department of Children and Families, Yale
University, and the UConn Health Center.

South Park Inn Medical Clinic 5th Annual 5K Road Race
The annual South Park Inn Medical Clinic Benefit 5K is accepting
entries for its September 28th race.
The South Park Inn Medical Clinic is a free medical clinic providing
primary care services to the transient residents of the South Park Inn
Shelter and Transitional Residence located in Hartford. The clinic is
supported entirely by the fundraising efforts of the medical students at
the University of Connecticut.
The 2002 Road Race will take place on September 28th, at 10:00 a.m.
on the grounds of the UConn Health Center and will include both runners
and walkers. Prizes will be awarded in multiple age-group categories,
and every runner will receive a race-day T-shirt.

Connecticut Health General Information
Connecticut Health facilitates and promotes public health and public
sector service to the State of Connecticut. The Connecticut Health
Project Database serves as a central source of information regarding
the UConn Health Center’s community and public health programs. Working with governmental
and community-based organizations, it seeks out opportunities for UConn Health Center
faculty and staff to collaborate on new initiatives, and it consults on
the development of new projects that are initiated from within the
Health Center.
Connecticut Health represents for the University of Connecticut
Health Center a new and permanent emphasis on community and public
health. It embodies the contribution of the Health Center to the health
of the citizens of the entire state. From Connecticut Health will come
an expanded range of programs that augment the Health Center’s

Connecticut Health Seminar Series - An innovative new series designed
specifically for UConn Health Center faculty and staff
Connecticut Health presents a series of CME accredited, one-hour
seminars to raise awareness of the community-based programs operated by
UConn Health Center faculty and staff and to foster discussion about the rewards and
challenges of undertaking community-based programs. All seminars take
place from 12-1 p.m. in the Link Room.
The Connecticut Health Seminar Series focuses institution-wide
attention on the evolving mission of the Health Center: that
community-based involvement is valued by the UConn Health Center leadership and
essential to the UConn Health Center future.

Seminar Series Objectives: Participants will understand the: Depth
and complexity of the public health needs facing the state of
Connecticut; Methods of addressing public health needs through community
based programs and collaborative relationships; and Challenges of
implementing community based programs and strategies for meeting
challenges
**Accreditation: This activity has been planned and implemented in
accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation
Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint
sponsorship of the University of Connecticut School of Medicine,
Connecticut Area Health Education Center Program, and Connecticut
Health. The University of Connecticut School of Medicine is accredited
by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians and
takes responsibility for the content, quality, and scientific integrity
of this CME activity. ** The University of Connecticut School of
Medicine designates this educational activity for a maximum of 1 hour
each in category 1 credit towards the AMA Physician’s Recognition Award.
Each physician should claim only those hours of credit that he/she
actually spent in the educational activity. Conflict of Interest Policy:
All faculty participating in Continuing Medical Education activities
sponsored by the University of Connecticut School of Medicine are
required to disclose to the program audience any real or apparent
conflict of interest related to the content of their presentations
Attendance at the entire program and completion of a program evaluation
are required to award a certificate for contact hours.
